Organisers of last week’s Open Day declared it a big success after recent members, established golfers and beginners all mingled to enjoy the sport and social on offer at this go-ahead club.

The second event of the year designed to introduce the game and all its benefits attracted over 60 people who took part in a range of activities run by the club’s Professionals and members.

A nine-hole experience was put on for the men, while the ladies took part in a four-hole, four-ball competition.

Others enjoyed some free professional coaching on the practice ground and putting green and all were offered a glass of Prosecco or a half pint with canapes in the club’s comfortable bar area afterwards with views over the South-facing balcony. Even the sun came out.

Men’s Captain Simon Bedford and Lady Captain Jo Coutts led the congratulations supported by their vice captains John Sullivan and Nicola Williams – all were introduced as part of the welcome.

Simon Bedford commented: “Today was about having fun, introducing new members to existing ones and giving those having lessons all important golf course time which they often don’t get chance to do. We are delighted that so many came along on the day and we hope many are inspired to get more involved.”

Bramall Park Golf Club – which will celebrate its 125thyear next year - has a thriving membership with over 800 people involved and a vibrant ladies section which is one of the largest in the area.

Like all other golf clubs though it is keen to build its membership and promote the benefits of golf, hence the latest Open Day.

Lady Captain Jo Coutts added: “Only when you run these kind of events do you get up close to people who are trying the game out and can encourage them to stay on the journey. This is all part of our efforts to retain and build members for the future.”
